Death, and the Vow for Revenge
Liam Sera Banfield was once an ordinary man living in a world much like modern-day Japan. As he lay dying in a small, dark apartment room, suffering from chest pain and weakness, he was approached by a mysterious figure known only as the “Guide.” The Guide showed Liam a vision of his ex-wife happily enjoying life with another man—a scene that turned out to be real, not a hallucination. It triggered memories of past betrayals and heartbreak.
Overwhelmed with frustration, Liam wept and cried out, “Let me have my revenge. I’ll never forgive them.” The Guide, taking advantage of Liam’s despair, offered him a new life. Reflecting on how his sincere and honest way of living had brought him nothing but suffering, Liam scoffed at the idea that “good people get rewarded.” In his next life, he vowed to become an “evil man” who lived solely for his own happiness.
Guide’s True Agenda
The Guide then reincarnated Liam into a futuristic interstellar empire where, despite technological advancements, feudalism still thrived. In this society, Liam was reborn as the heir to a powerful count’s household—a clear winner from birth. He gleefully remarked, “An evil magistrate? No, I’m a noble now. I’ll be an evil lord.”
However, the Guide had darker plans. Looking down at Liam’s lifeless body, he mocked him, saying, “Unlucky in life? Don’t be ridiculous. There are tons of people more miserable than you.” The Guide revealed that he had orchestrated Liam’s downfall just to watch a “righteous” man be ruined. Even the fate of Liam’s ex-wife and her lover was manipulated for the Guide’s amusement.
The Guide’s twisted joy didn’t stop there. He planned to let Liam succeed at first—only to later crush him with betrayal, rebellion, and public execution. But what he didn’t notice was a small, dog-like glimmer of light in the corner of the room. This tiny being silently followed Liam into his next life...
A New Life as Liam Sera Banfield
Liam was reincarnated into the Banfield House, a noble family ruling over an entire galaxy within the Algrand Empire. Waking up in the body of a five-year-old with black hair and violet eyes, he retained full memories of his previous life. He quickly realized that he had indeed been born into immense power and privilege.
On his fifth birthday, his parents—Cliff and Darcie—suddenly handed over all titles, territories, and rights to Liam. Although surprised, he recognized this as the “support” the Guide had promised.
Amagi, a Maid Robot
Darcie offered Liam a catalog to choose a maid robot to care for him. Distrusting real women due to past betrayals, Liam selected the highest-spec robot available, requesting a classical maid design. The robot would later be named Amagi.
Meanwhile, his parents also asked him to sign documents for financial support, clearly planning to dump all responsibilities on him and escape to a comfortable city life. Internally, Liam mocked their ignorance, thinking how absurd it was that they were being outwitted by a man reborn inside a child’s body.
Their marriage was purely political. Darcie viewed Liam as nothing more than a genetic successor, and Cliff had no qualms about burdening a five-year-old with an entire domain. Liam felt a mix of pity and satisfaction as he realized he had effectively stolen everything from them without their knowledge.
Stepping Into Leadership
Amagi suggested that Liam enter an advanced learning capsule to prepare for his future as a lord. However, his butler, Brian, warned that AI-based governance was frowned upon within the Empire. Amagi countered that such laws were “recommendations” rather than strict rules, and Liam decided that remaining ignorant would be far more dangerous.
He agreed to let Amagi manage things temporarily, thinking, “If I want to exploit my people in the future, I need to study first.” Aware that his body was still a child’s, he resolved to stay low and focus on learning for the time being.
Butler and the Mysterious Sword Master
Brian, the Banfield family’s loyal butler for generations, was deeply cautious about AI interference but ultimately respected Liam’s decision. His emotional response to Liam’s growth—including shedding tears—showed his sincere care and concern.
Liam viewed Brian as a “grandpa” figure, distinct from the mechanical Amagi. The two formed a unique dynamic of loyalty and trust that would become the foundation of Liam’s new household.
Liam meets a man who claims to be a master swordsman named Yasushi. Yasushi introduces himself as a practitioner of a legendary sword style known as Issen and offers to train Liam. Despite concerns from Amagi, Liam’s highly capable maid robot, Liam insists on learning from him.
To prove his skill, Yasushi performs an eye-catching demonstration. Without drawing his sword, he pushes the hilt with his left hand, sending the blade out with such speed that it slices through several logs in different angles all at once. Liam is amazed by the speed and elegance of the move and eagerly agrees to study under Yasushi, believing he’s found a master of fantasy-like sword techniques.
But the truth is far less glamorous. Yasushi is a fraud. He has no real swordsmanship background—he picked up flashy techniques from videos and street performers. He’s simply pretending to be a master in order to scam Liam, planning to collect some money and escape when things get too serious. He can't measure Liam's abilities and becomes increasingly anxious as Liam shows exceptional progress.
To slow him down, Yasushi starts assigning deliberately difficult training methods, such as blindfolded practice and using ridiculously heavy swords. He even has Liam's great-grandfather’s ancient mobile knight, Avid, restored for training purposes—knowing full well that it's outdated, difficult to operate, and extremely expensive to repair. Yasushi hopes the cost and challenge will wear Liam out.
Yasushi’s pettiness is further exposed when he attempts to seduce Nias Carlin, a military engineer handling Avid's restoration. After being rejected, he becomes jealous and assumes Liam is romantically involved with her. In a fit of envy, he intensifies Liam’s training, trying to "punish" him.
Despite Yasushi’s efforts to sabotage him, Liam continues to grow stronger. Eventually, Yasushi realizes he's completely outmatched and hastily grants Liam full mastery in Isshin-ryu before fleeing. At a nearby tavern, he vents his frustration, stunned that the boy actually turned his made-up sword tricks into real technique.
What makes this even more absurd is that Issenn doesn’t exist in this world. According to the Guide, Yasushi’s sword style was completely fabricated. And yet, Liam’s talent and hard work make it real. He develops Isshin-ryu into an actual deadly style.
Liam eventually demonstrates Isshin-ryu with perfection—slicing through logs in the blink of an eye using speed, perception, and precision alone. He even discovers a critical flaw: the style doesn’t allow for "holding back." Every strike is fatal, and it lacks the nuance of restraint.
The Guide is baffled. Yasushi’s fraud has become a reality, and Liam, who believed in that lie, has turned it into a weapon that even the gods didn’t foresee.
Review
I didn’t expect to enjoy this as much as I did. What started as a typical reincarnation setup quickly turned into a clever comedy about misunderstandings and good intentions gone “evil.” Liam claims he wants to be a corrupt aristocrat—but somehow every one of his selfish decisions ends up making his territory better. I found myself laughing more than once at how completely everyone misinterprets his actions.
The setting is also pretty interesting. It mixes medieval-style noble politics with sci-fi elements like space fleets and robots, which sounds chaotic, but somehow it works. The maid robot Amagi is an unexpected highlight—strangely loyal, oddly touching, and just a bit tragic if you think about it.
What really stuck with me, though, was the irony: Liam keeps trying to be bad, but he just ends up looking more virtuous. It’s not just funny—it’s kind of satisfying to watch the universe foil someone’s petty goals by accident. Even the supposedly evil “Guide” who reincarnated him keeps getting unintentionally praised. That part made the story feel smarter than I expected.
It’s not perfect—the pacing slows down a bit in the middle, and the comedy relies on the same joke more than once. But overall, it was a really fun read. I’ll definitely continue with the series.
