Will Failure Frame End with Volume 14? Author Comments on the Series Finale

The author of the original Failure Frame web novel has said that he is now preparing to write the final part of the story. Considering the time needed for publication and localization, the English version of the final volume is expected to be released sometime after late 2026.

Last Updated on 22 June, 2025.

'Failure Frame: I Became the Strongest and Annihilated Everything With Low-Level Spells' is a Japanese web novel currently serialized on the site Shōsetsuka ni Narō. As of April 2025, the web novel has been updated through the third act of the final arc, content that corresponds to Volume 13 of the published light novel series. However, as of June 2025, no further updates have been posted since then.

The Light Novel is Nearing Its End

In the afterword of the final April update of the web novel, the author thanked the readers and mentioned that the next part to be released will be the final section of the final arc. This strongly suggests that the story is heading toward its conclusion and that Volume 14 will be the last in the light novel series.

The author also mentioned in the same afterword that he plans to take a short break before starting work on the final section, so we will have to wait a little longer before we can actually read the conclusion.

Expected Release Date for the Final Volume of Failure Frame

Unfortunately, English-speaking readers may have to wait even longer. Given that the Japanese version has been released on a roughly annual schedule—Volume 13 came out in Spring 2025—Volume 14 will likely be published in Japan sometime in Spring 2026 or later. Since the English editions typically follow about a year after the Japanese releases, the final English volume probably won’t arrive until late 2026 at the earliest.

Manga May Catch Up Soon

The manga adaptation is currently covering the middle section of the story. Although it lags behind the light novel, the manga is published relatively quickly, about twice a year, which is a faster pace than the novel volumes. At this rate, the manga could catch up with the novel by the time the final light novel is finished and released in English.

No Plans Yet for Season 2 of the Anime

Season 1 of the Failure Frame anime aired in Summer 2024. However, as of mid-2025, there have been no official announcements regarding Season 2. It's unclear whether the anime adaptation will continue, especially as the story approaches its conclusion in print.

What Will Happen in the Final Volume?

The final volume is expected to feature the long-awaited showdown with the 'Foul Goddess Vicius'. At the end of Volume 13, Touka and his allies reach the Goddess’ stronghold, and the final battle seems imminent. This climax will likely bring resolution to Touka’s long-standing revenge and may culminate in Vicius’s defeat — possibly Vicius's death — bringing closure to the central conflict of the series.

In addition, there may be new developments in the relationship between Touka and Seras, which has steadily deepened throughout the story.
